BIO

Jean is a graduate of Cornish College in sculpture with an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Texas in San Antonio.  She has exhibited nationally for over 35 years and her work has been reviewed in Art in America and Artweek.  Following a teaching position at San Antonio College, Jean returned to her native Northwest to live and work.  Solo exhibitions include the Kohler House and the Guadalupe Cultural Center in San Antonio, Portland's Art Gym at Marylhurst College, Women & Their Work Gallery in Austin, Gallery Cygnus, Anchor art space and Shoreline CC. Among others, Behnke's work has been included in shows at the Institute of the Permian Basin, CoCA, the Tacoma Museum of Art, Hunt Gallery, Kirkland Art Center, Islands Museum of Art, Woman Made Gallery, Whatcom Museum, Anchor art space, Skagit Valley College, Lower Columbia College, WSU Tri-Cities, South Puget Sound College, Smith & Vallee Gallery, the Schack Fine Arts Center and the Museum of Northwest Art. 

Jean founded Anchor art space in 2008, a well respected project space offering compelling exhibitions and education in the arts.  She has served on the Cornish Alumni Board, 911 Media Arts Center Board, Anchor art space Board and the La Conner Arts Commission. Jean teaches drawing and is represented by Smith & Vallee Gallery.
